Once, there was a beautiful Javanese princess whose name was Rara
Jonggrang. Rara Jonggrang whose beauty was very famous in the land was
the daughter of Prabu Baka, and evil king.
One day, a handsome young man with super natural power named Bandung
Bondowoso defatted and killed Prabu Baka. On seeing Princess Rara
Jonggrang’s beauty, Bandung Bondowoso fell in love wither and wantted to
marry her.
Meanwhile, Princess Rara jonggrang felt sad due to her death father.
She did not want to marry Bandung because he had killed her father. But
she was also afraid of Bandung. So to refuse politely, she made a
condition. "I will marry you but you have to build one thousand temples
in one night as a wedding gift" requested Rara Jonggrang. Bandung
Bondowoso agreed with the condition. Helped by the spirit of the demons,
Bandung Bondowoso started building the temples. Approaching midnight,
the work would nearly be done. Rara Jonggrang knew and thought, "What
shall I do? Bandung Bondowoso is smarter than I. I would lose against
Bandung."
Suddenly she got an idea. She woke up all the women in the palace and
ordered them to make the noisy sounds of grinding rice so that the
rooster thought at had already been dawn. Bandung Bondowoso got
frustrated because he failed completing the thousandth temple.
"The Princess has deceived me!" Following his anger, he cursed Roro
Jonggrang, "You have been cheated. Now, the thousandth temple is you!"
At once, the Princess turned into a statue. knowing this, Bandung
Bondowoso regretted and he went away into a farm land. From then people
called the temple Prambanan Temple and the Princess statue Rara
Jonggrang statue.

The Legend Of Surabaya
A long time ago, there were two animals, Sura and Baya. Sura was the
name of a shark and Baya was a crocodile. They lived in a sea.
Once Sura and Baya were looking for some food. Suddenly, Baya saw a goat.
“Yummy, this is my lunch,” said Baya.
“No way! This is my lunch. You are greedy” said Sura. Then they fought for the goat. After several hours, they were very tired.
Feeling tired of fighting, they lived in the different places. Sura lived in the water and Baya lived in the land. The border was the beach, so they would never fight again.
One day, Sura went to the land and looked for some food in the river. He was very hungry and there was not much food in the sea. Baya was very angry when he knew that Sura broke the promise.

Once upon a time, there was a little poor boy came into a little
village. He was very hungry and weak. He knocked at every door and asked
for some food, but nobody cared about him. Nobody wanted to help the
little boy.
Finally, a generous woman helped him. She gave him shelter and a meal. When the boy wanted to leave, this old woman gave him a “lesung”, a big wooden mortar for pounding rice. She reminded him, “please remember, if there is a flood you must save yourself.
Use this “lesung” as a boat”. The “lesung” was happy and thanked the old woman.The little boy continued his journey. While he was passing through the village, he saw many people gathering on the field. The boy came closer and saw a stick stuck in the ground. People challenged each other to pull out that stick. Everybody tried, but nobody succeeded. “Can I try?” asked the little boy. The crowd laughed mockingly. The boy wanted to try his luck so he stepped forward and pulled out the stick. He could do it very easily. Everybody was dumbfounded.
Suddenly, from the hole left by stick, water spouted out. It did not stop until it flooded the village. And no one was saved from the water except the little boy and the generous old woman who gave him shelter and meal. As she told him, he used the “lesung” as a boat and picked up the old woman. The whole village became a huge lake. It is now known as Rawa Pening Lake in Salatiga, Central Java, Indonesia.

The Legend Of Tangkuban Perahu
One day, Dayang Sumbi asked her son to go hunting with his lovely dog, Tumang. After hunting all day, Sangkuriang began desperate and worried because he hunted no deer. Then he thought to shot his own dog. Then he took the dog liver and carried home.
Soon Dayang Sumbi found out that it was not deer lever but Tumang's, his own dog. So, She was very angry and hit Sangkuriang's head. In that incident, Sangkuriang got wounded and scar then cast away from their home.
Years go bye, Sangkuriang had travel many places and finally arrived at a village. He met a beautiful woman and felt in love with her. When they were discussing their wedding plans, The woman looked at the wound in Sangkuriang's head. It matched to her son's wound who had left severall years earlier. Soon she realized that she felt in love with her own son.
She couldn't marry him but how to say it. Then, she found the way. She needed a lake and a boat for celebrating their wedding day. Sangkuriang had to make them in one night. He built a lake. With a dawn just moment away and the boat was almost complete. Dayang Sumbi had to stop it. Then, she lit up the eastern horizon with flashes of light. It made the cock crowed for a new day.
Sangkuriang failed to marry her. She was very angry and kicked the boat. It felt over and became the mountain of Tangkuban Perahu Bandung.

Once upon time There was a king who had three sons. The two son were
clever. The third son did not speak much so he was called Simpleton.
When the king had become old, he did not know which son should become
the king.
Then he got a bright idea and said; “Go forth, who brings me the most beautiful carpet will be king after me”. He blew three feathers in the air, and said: “You should go as they fly”. One feather flew to the east, the second to the west, but the third flew straight up and did not fly far.
So one brother went to the right, and the other to the left. Simpleton was sad because his feather did not fly far. Then all at once he saw a trap-door close to the feather. He found some steps, and went down the door. Then he came to another door, knocked at it. The door opened, and he saw a fat toad sitting. She asked what he wanted. He answered; “I should get the prettiest and finest carpet in the world”. Then she called a young toad; “Bring me the great box!”
The young toad brought the box. The fat toad opened it, and gave simpleton a carpet out of it. The carpet was so beautiful. So Simpleton thanked her, and brought it to the kingdom. Meanwhile his brothers just got some coarse handkerchiefs from a shepherds’ wives whom they had met. When the king saw Simpleton’s carpet he was very astonished and said; ” Well, the kingdom belongs to the Simpleton”. But his two brothers argued that it was impossible that simpleton should be king, They asked the king to make a new agreement.
Then the father said; “Who brings me the most beautiful ring will inherit the kingdom”. He blew three feathers, which they were to follow. Those of the two eldest again went east and west, and simpleton’s feather flew straight up, and fell down near the trap-door. Again the fat toad gave him a ring sparkled with jewels. Meanwhile his two brothers just got old carriage-rings. However they did not cease from tormenting the king until he made a third condition.
So the king declared; Who brings the most beautiful woman home will be the king”. He again blew the three feathers into the air. Then Simpleton went down to the fat toad, and said; “I am to take home the most beautiful woman”. The she gave him a yellow turnip which had been hollowed out. Mournfully Simpleton said; “What am I to do with it?”. The toad answered; “Just put one of my little toads into it!”. Then Simpleton seized one little toad and put her into the yellow coach. Surprisingly the little toad turned into a beautiful maiden. So Simpleton took her to the king. On the other hand, his brother brought peasant women to the kingdom.
When the king saw the women he said; “After my death the kingdom belongs to my youngest son”. But the two eldest brothers kept arguing that whose wife could leap through a ring which hung in the center of the hall would be the king. The king agreed. Then the two peasant women jumped through the ring but they fell which made their arms and legs broke. On the other hand, the pretty maiden sprang through the ring as lightly as a deer which made the two peasants ceased. So Simpleton received the crown and ruled wisely the kingdom.

Early the next morning, Romeo came to Friar Lawrence begging the friar to marry him to Juliet. The Friar performed the ceremony, praying that the union might someday put an end to the feud between the two families. He advised Romeo kept the marriage a secret for a time.
On the way home, Romeo chanced upon his friend Mercutio arguing with Tybalt, a member of the Capulet clan. That quarreling last caused Merquito died. Romeo was reluctant no longer. He drew his sword and slew Tybalt died. Romeo realized he had made a terrible mistake. Then Friar Lawrence advised Romeo to travel to Mantua until things cool down. He promised to inform Juliet.
In the other hand, Juliet’s father had decided the time for her to marry with Paris. Juliet consulted Friar Lawrence and made a plot to take a sleeping potion for Juliet which would simulate death for three days. The plot proceeded according to the plan. Juliet was sleeping in death.
Unfortunately, The Friar’s letter failed to reach Romeo. Under the cover of darkness, he broke into Juliet’s tomb. Romeo kissed the lips of his Juliet one last time and drank the poison. Meanwhile, the effects of the sleeping potion wear off. Juliet woke up calling for Romeo. She found her love next to her but was lying dead, with a cup of poison in his hand. She tried to kiss the poison from his lips, but failed. Then Juliet put out his dagger and plunged it into her breast. She died.

Let’ Me Love You
Once upon a time,
there was once a guy who was very much in love with this girl. This
romantic guy folded 1,000 pieces of papercranes as a gift to his girl.
Although, at that time he was just a small executive in his company, his
future doesn’t seem too bright, they were very happy together. Until
one day, his girl told him she was going to Paris and will never come
back. She also told him that she cannot visualize any future for the
both of them, so let’s go their own ways there and then… heartbroken,
the guy agreed.
When he regained his
confidence, he worked hard day and night, just to make something out of
himself. Finally with all these hard work and with the help of friends,
this guy had set up his own company…
“You never fail until
you stop trying.” he always told himself. “I must make it in life!” One
rainy day, while this guy was driving, he saw an elderly couple sharing
an umbrella in the rain walking to some destination. Even with the
umbrella, they were still drenched. It didn’t take him long to realize
those were his ex-girlfriend’s parents. With a heart in getting back at
them, he drove slowly beside the couple, wanting them to spot him in his
luxury saloon. He wanted them to know that he wasn’t the same anymore,
he had his own company, car, condo, etc. He had made it in life!
Before the guy can
realize, the couple was walking towards a cemetery, and he got out of

him.He walked over and asked them why this had happened. They explained
that she did not leave for France at all. She was stricken ill with

chosen to leave him.
She had wanted her
parents to put his papercranes beside her, because, if the day comes
when fate brings him to her again he can take some of those back with
him. The guy just wept.

In the north of Israel was Syria. It had powerful knights. They were very cruel and liked to invade other countries.
One night when the people of Jonah’s village were sleeping, the Syrian knights attacked his village. They burned down the houses. One of them threw a torch into Jonah’s house. Jonah’s house was on fire.
Jonah and his parents avoided the fire burning their house. They saved themselves by climbing a ladder to the upstairs. It was too high for them to jump down to the ground from the upstairs. Jonah’s father took a rope to get down from the stairs to the ground. They escaped to another village.
Jonah and his parents lived in a fishermen village. They became fishermen.
One day, when they were fishing in the sea, Jonah fell into the sea. Jonah was drawn into the sea. A whale came closed to him. He tried to swim avoiding the whale as fast as possible but he failed and at last the whale swallowed him. Jonah was still alive in the stomach of the whale. He prayed to God to be released from the stomach of the whale.
Fortunately God granted his prayer. The whale came closed to an island. It opened its mouth and Jonah came out from its stomach.
Jonah swam to the seashore and he lived in a new island.

Timun Emas
One night Buto Ijo, a giant with supranatural powers, passed a
farmer’s house. He heard the farmer’s pray. “Don’t worry farmers. I can
give you a child. But you have to give me that child when she is 17
years old,” said Buto Ijo. The farmers were so happy. They did not think
about the risk of losing their child letter and agree to take the
offer.
Later, Buto Ijo gave them a bunch of cucumber seeds. The farmers planted them carefully. Then the seeds changed into plants. No longer after that, a big golden cucumber grew from plants. After it had ripe, the farmers picked and cut it. They were very surprised to see beautiful girl inside the cucumber. They named her Timun Mas or Golden Cucumber. Years passed by and Timun Mas has changed into a beautiful girl. On her 17th birthday, Timun Mas was very happy.
Later, Buto Ijo gave them a bunch of cucumber seeds. The farmers planted them carefully. Then the seeds changed into plants. No longer after that, a big golden cucumber grew from plants. After it had ripe, the farmers picked and cut it. They were very surprised to see beautiful girl inside the cucumber. They named her Timun Mas or Golden Cucumber. Right
after that, Buto Ijo came into their house. “Run Timun Mas. Save your
life!” said the mother. Buto ijo was angry. He knew the farmers wanted
to break their promise. He chased Timun Mas away. Buto Ijo was getting
closer and closer. Timun Mas then opened the bag and threw a handful of
salt. It became sea. Buto Ijo had to swim to cross the sea. Later, Timun
Mas threw some chilly. It became a jungle with trees. The trees had
sharp thorns so they hurt Buto Ijo. However, he was still able to chase
Timun Mas. Timun Mas took her third magic stuff. It was cucumber seeds.
She threw them and became cucumber field. But Buto Ijo still could
escape from the field. Then it was the last magic stuff she had in the
bag. It was a shrimp paste or terasi. She threw it and became a
big swamp. Buto Ijo was still trying to swim the swamp but he was very
tired. Then he was drowning and died.
Timun Mas then immediately went home. The farmers were so happy that they finally together again.
The Story of Lutung Kasarung
Prabu Tapa Agung was an old king. He had two daughters, Purbararang
and Purbasari. Prabu Tapa Agung planned to retire as a king. He wanted
Purbasari to replace him as the leader of the kingdom.
Hearing this, Purbararang was angry. “You cannot ask her to be the queen, Father. I’m older than she is. It’s supposed to be me, not her!” said Purbararang. With his brave and power, Malin Kundang defeated the pirates. The merchant was so happy and thanked to him. In return the merchant asked Malin Kundang to sail with him. To get a better life, Malin Kundang agreed. He left his mother alone.
Many years later, Malin Kundang became wealthy. He had a huge ship and was helped by many ship crews loading trading goods. Perfectly he had a beautiful wife too. When he was sailing his trading journey, his ship landed on a beach near a small village. The villagers recognized him. The news ran fast in the town; “Malin Kundang has become rich and now he is here”.
An old woman ran to the beach to meet the new rich merchant. She was Malin Kundang’s mother. She wanted to hug him, released her sadness of being lonely after so long time. Unfortunately, when the mother came, Malin Kundang who was in front of his well dressed wife and his ship crews denied meeting that old lonely woman. For three times her mother begged Malin Kundang and for three times he yelled at her. At last Malin Kundang said to her “Enough, old woman! After everything was finished, the old woman returned the clothes. She also gave Bawang Putih a gift. The old woman had two pumpkins, one pumpkin was small and the other one was big. Bawang Putih had to choose one.
Bawang Putih was not a greedy girl. So she took the small one. After thanking the old woman, Bawang Putih then went home. When she arrived home, her step mother and Bawang Merah were angry. Cinderella could not help crying after they had left.
“Why are crying, Cinderella?” a voice asked. She looked up and saw her fairy godmother standing beside her, “because I want so much to go to the ball” said Cinderella. “Well” said the godmother,”you’ve been such a cheerful, hardworking, uncomplaining girl that I am going to see that you do go to the ball”.
Magically, the fairy godmother changed a pumpkin into a fine coach and mice into a coachman and two footmen. Her godmother tapped Cinderella’s raged dress with her wand, and it became a beautiful ball gown. Then she gave her a pair of pretty glass slippers. “Now, Cinderella”, she said; “You must leave before midnight”. Then away she drove in her beautiful coach.
Cinderella was having a wonderfully good time. She danced again and again with the king’s son. Suddenly the clock began to strike twelve, she ran toward the door as quickly as she could. In her hurry, one of her glass slipper was left behind.
A few days later, the king’ son proclaimed that he would marry the girl whose feet fitted the glass slipper. Her step sisters tried on the slipper but it was too small for them, no matter how hard they squeezed their toes into it. In the end, the king’s page let Cinderella try on the slipper. Unfortunately, he found out and got furious, and shouted; “You damned daughter of a fish”. The daughter ran home and asked her mother. The mother started crying, felt sad that her husband had broke his promise.
Then she told her daughter to run up the hills because a huge disaster was about to come. When her daughter left, she prayed. Soon there was a big earthquake followed by non-stop pouring rain. The bear was the father of five children. Fortunately, the youngest child was very kind to the rabbit. He was very hearty eater. The mother bear always gave him an extra large piece of meat but the youngest child did not eat it. He would take it outside with him and pretended to play ball with the meat. He kicked toward the rabbit’s house.When he got close to the door he would give the meat with such a great kick. The meat would fly into the rabbit’s house.
In this way, the poor rabbit would get his meal.

The bear was the father of five children. Fortunately, the youngest child was very kind to the rabbit. He was very hearty eater. The mother bear always gave him an extra large piece of meat but the youngest child did not eat it. He would take it outside with him and pretended to play ball with the meat. He kicked toward the rabbit’s house.When he got close to the door he would give the meat with such a great kick. The meat would fly into the rabbit’s house.
In this way, the poor rabbit would get his meal.

The Smartest Parrot
Once upon time, a man had a wonderful parrot. There was no other
parrot like it. The parrot could say every word, except one word. The
parrot would not say the name of the place where it was born. The name
of the place was Catano.
The man felt excited having the smartest parrot but he could not understand why the parrot would not say Catano. The man tried to teach the bird to say Catano however the bird kept not saying the word.
At the first, the man was very nice to the bird but then he got very angry. “You stupid bird!” pointed the man to the parrot. “Why can’t you say the word? Say Catano! Or I will kill you” the man said angrily. Although he tried hard to teach, the parrot would not say it. Then the man got so angry and shouted to the bird over and over; “Say Catano or I’ll kill you”. The bird kept not to say the word of Catano.
One day, after he had been trying so many times to make the bird say Catano, the man really got very angry. He could not bear it. He picked the parrot and threw it into the chicken house. There were four old chickens for next dinner “You are as stupid as the chickens. Just stay with them” Said the man angrily. Then he continued to humble; “You know, I will cut the chicken for my meal. Next it will be your turn, I will eat you too, stupid parrot”. After that he left the chicken house.
The next day, the man came back to the chicken house. He opened the door and was very surprised. He could not believe what he saw at the chicken house. There were three death chickens on the floor. At the moment, the parrot was standing proudly and screaming at the last old chicken; “Say Catano or I’ll hit you”.
